FIVE THINGS WITH CYCLIST LILAH GUERTIN
FIVE THINGS is a feature on the Banjo Brothers Blog. It’s a short interview about life and bicycles with a notable person. This week's notable person is cyclist Lilah Guertin.
The former bartender at Dangerous Man Brewing has also been a freelance event marketing professional, and store manager at Erik's. A year-round bike commuter, Lilah founded Wreckhouse and #SomethingInspirational Racing. A new photojournalism project on Instagram called femme_oral_order features a series of images that lift up femme-oriented people in Guertin's immediate communities.
We stumbled upon a note about a pending career change and decided to ask if there'd be interest in doing a Five Things Profile. The answer was yes!
We hope you enjoy this week's Banjo Brothers Five Things.
BANJO BROS: WHAT ARE YOU RIDING?
LG: My favorite bike at the moment is my Koochella team edition All-City Nature Boy 853. Jamie McDonald and I built it up together with 700mm flat bars, gold housing with matching levers and pedals and a pair of tubeless wheels for a single speed champion cyclocross racer. My other rides are both cyclocross and track race bikes. Although sometimes in the summer I prefer riding motorcycles.

BANJO BROS: WHERE ARE YOU RIDING?
LG: During the track season, you will find me hosting racers and taking lots of beach rides with friends. I've been learning to ride more mountain bikes at Theo and Cayuna.

BANJO BROS: WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO, READING OR WATCHING?
LG: Lots of UX Design podcasts, like the Aurelius Project Podcast, since that's the field I'm going into. I've been brushing up on some queer slam poetry by Andrea Gibson and loving lyricism by Swedish pianist Susanne Sundför.
WHAT ARE YOU COOKING, EATING/DRINKING?
LG: My flatmate and I cook a lot of squash and a variety of vegetables. I like to grill and make seafood dishes. Burritos and tacos are truly my favorite foods which I make tofu tacos often and you may find me in the kitchen scarfing leftover tofu and pickles late at night.
BANJO BROS: WHAT'S STUCK IN YOUR CRAW?
LG: During all my travels at the end of 2018, it really hurts my heart to see all the homelessness in our country and I feel so overwhelmed by the situation. I am very educated on mental illness and the fallout it causes and would like to use my design training to create steps towards the resolve. On a lighter note, I love comedy and consider doing stand-up constantly.
